Dr. Helbing Lab, UVIC:
Scientists in the Helbing lab work hard to find ways to monitor ecosystem health and promote animal and human health. The scientist is holding a shed frog skin that has many clues.
It is a good source of peptides that can work as antibiotics. Testing biomolecules in the skin tells us how clean the water is that frogs live in. Skin DNA shed into the water as “environmental DNA” lets us find out where at risk species live to protect them.
