Dr. Marianne Sadar Lab, UBC:

Did you know that scientists are discovering many new medicines in strange sea sponges?

Dr. Marianne Sadar and her colleague, Dr. Raymond Anderson have discovered a compound in purple sea sponges in the waters off Paupa New Guinea.  She is using compounds from this sponge in development of a cancer cure.

Dr. Sadar grew up in Kamloops, and now she is a distinguished professor and scientist at the Genome Sciences Centre, U.B.C.  She received an honorary degree from TRU in 2018.  Click on the  QR codes below  to hear her captivating story and to read about her discoveries.
